Internet Death Hoax Makes Celebrities News

If you here celebrities news gossip that someone famous has plunged to his or death from a cliff in New Zealand, you probably should not believe it. That's because this is the fate that reportedly befell Jeff Goldblum on the same day in 20009 that Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett died. It turned out to be a hoax, as the rumor got its start from a prank website that allows users to generate fake death reports for any celebrity.

That's why the unusual cause of death may have sounded eerily familiar. The same fate supposedly befell Tom Hanks in 2006 and Tom Cruise in 2008, not to mention Natalie Portman a week after Goldblum's "death." Twitter helped to spread the bogus news at lightening speed, but then some famous Tweeters intervened to help kill it. These included actor Kevin Spacey and gossip blogger Perez Hilton, who wrote "'Jeff Goldblum is NOT Dead! Stop the rumors."
